KeyVR allows designers, clients, and stakeholders to easily view and manipulate models, scroll through model sets, multi-materials and virtual environments to make faster, better decisions.

  1. Prepare your scene - Import CAD files into KeyShot, create materials, environments, animations, cameras and save as a BIP (or KSP) file. Take into account the current KeyVR Capabilities. For more tips on setting up your scene visit the Scene setup page.

  2. Start KeyVR - Press the (blue star) KeyVR button in the KeyShot Toolbar (KeyShot 8 and forward) or launch the KeyVR application directly.

  3. Experience - Now you can inspect your 3D model in a photo realistic rendering, and make design decisions from the animations, multi-materials, model-sets and different environments. The 3D geometry can be inspected by walking around, "flying", teleporting, selecting predefined camera and manipulating the position and appearance of individual objects in the scene.

Requirements

Oculus

Meta Quest, Rift

  1. Quest headsets need to be connected to your PC via Link cable or AirLink (wireless).

  2. The Oculus app needs to be installed and running. Download here.

  3. The Unknown Sources option in the Oculus app needs to be enabled (Settings → General → Unknown Sources).

  4. The Oculus app needs to be set as the active OpenXR runtime. This should be the case by default. If not, the app itself will show the warning “Windows Mixed Reality is not set up to run OpenXR apps” and display a “Fix it” button. Clicking this will make the required change. If that warning isn’t shown, go to Settings → General → OpenXR Runtime in the Oculus app and click on “Set Oculus as active“.

SteamVR

Valve Index, HTC Vive

  1. Steam needs to be installed. Download here.

  2. SteamVR needs to be installed through Steam and running. Download here.

  3. SteamVR needs to be set as the active OpenXR runtime. This should be the case by default. If not, click on the SteamVR menu button in the top-left of the window, then select Settings → Show Advanced Settings → Developer and click on the “Set SteamVR as OpenXR runtime” button.

Windows Mixed Reality

HP Reverb

  1. The Mixed Reality Portal app needs to be installed and running. Download through the Microsoft Store here. Note that this app comes pre-installed with some versions of Windows.

  2. Steam needs to be installed. Download here.

  3. SteamVR needs to be installed through Steam and running. Download here.

  4. The Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR plugin needs to be installed through Steam. Download here.

  5. SteamVR needs to be set as the active OpenXR runtime. This needs to be done manually as the Mixed Reality Portal app registers itself as the active runtime instead of SteamVR. Click on the SteamVR menu button in the top-left of the window, then select Settings → Show Advanced Settings → Developer and click on the “Set SteamVR as OpenXR runtime” button.

Varjo

Varjo VR, XR, Aero

  1. The Varjo Base app needs to be installed and running. Download here.

  2. Enable OpenXR support in the Varjo Base app. This should be the case by default. If not, go to System → OpenXR in Varjo Base and enable the toggle.
