Headset Compatibility
KeyVR supports the free OpenXR standard, which almost all headsets on the market at this point of writing have adopted. Here is a more detailed overview:
Ecosystem | Product Lines | Requirements |
---|
Oculus | Meta Quest, Rift | Quest headsets need to be connected to your PC via Link cable or AirLink (wireless). The Oculus app needs to be installed and running. Download here. The Unknown Sources option in the Oculus app needs to be enabled (Settings → General → Unknown Sources). The Oculus app needs to be set as the active OpenXR runtime. This should be the case by default. If not, the app itself will show the warning “Windows Mixed Reality is not set up to run OpenXR apps” and display a “Fix it” button. Clicking this will make the required change. If that warning isn’t shown, go to Settings → General → OpenXR Runtime in the Oculus app and click on “Set Oculus as active“.
|
SteamVR | Valve Index, HTC Vive | Steam needs to be installed. Download here. SteamVR needs to be installed through Steam and running. Download here. SteamVR needs to be set as the active OpenXR runtime. This should be the case by default. If not, click on the SteamVR menu button in the top-left of the window, then select Settings → Show Advanced Settings → Developer and click on the “Set SteamVR as OpenXR runtime” button.
|
Windows Mixed Reality | HP Reverb | The Mixed Reality Portal app needs to be installed and running. Download through the Microsoft Store here. Note that this app comes pre-installed with some versions of Windows. Steam needs to be installed. Download here. SteamVR needs to be installed through Steam and running. Download here. The Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR plugin needs to be installed through Steam. Download here. SteamVR needs to be set as the active OpenXR runtime. This needs to be done manually as the Mixed Reality Portal app registers itself as the active runtime instead of SteamVR. Click on the SteamVR menu button in the top-left of the window, then select Settings → Show Advanced Settings → Developer and click on the “Set SteamVR as OpenXR runtime” button.
|
Varjo | Varjo VR, XR, Aero | The Varjo Base app needs to be installed and running. Download here. Enable OpenXR support in the Varjo Base app. This should be the case by default. If not, go to System → OpenXR in Varjo Base and enable the toggle.
